This enables them to undertake work that may have been performed by others such as Doctors in the past. Their role is to improve access to services, particularly regarding minor ailments and illness and offer an alternative approach to your care. They can see patients for the following Minor illness/ailments such as:

  • Coughs/Colds
  • Rashes & skin problems
  • Minor injuries
  • Hayfever
  • Urine infections
  • Ear, nose and throat problems
  • Immunisations
  • Emergency contraception

All of our Practice Nurses are highly experienced nurses that possess and have a wide variety of extra qualifications that enable them to provide care in different aspects of health promotion and chronic disease management activities.

Sue Collins – is able to see patients for:

  • Blood pressure management
  • Family planning advice, Contraceptive pill checks, Depo-Provera injections
  • Care of patients with diabetes
  • Review checks for patients with asthma

Health Care Assistant are able to see patient’s for the following:

  • New patient health checks
  • ECGs
  • Spirometry testing
  • Weight clinic – to provide advice on diet, exercise and monitor patients on medication for weight reduction
  • 24 hour blood pressure measurements
  • Monitoring of patients with high blood pressure
  • Refer patients for ‘Exercise on Prescription’ (recipe for health)
  • Vitamin B12 Injections
  • INR blood testing for some patients on long-term Warfarin
  • Flu and pneumonia vaccinations
  • Well person MOT checks health check which includes height, weight, blood pressure and urine check

District Nurses

  • Based in the community and their role includes caring for people who are housebound:
  • Intravenous drug therapy
  • Palliative care and support for family and carers
  • End of life care
  • Chronic disease monitoring for the housebound
  • Continence assessment and advice
  • Phlebotomy for housebound patients
  • Health promotion
  • Empowering patients and carers to manage their condition
